Spaghetti is always a big hit at our house. It's one of my comfort foods and I think I have forced everyone else to love it, like it or not. I used to buy 3 different kinds of tomatoes and would make sure I simmered the sauce for at least an hour. While it was good, I realized I didn't have to spend all that extra time or money.
Spaghetti SauceIngredients:
1 lb ground turkey or ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1/2 cup chopped carrot (optional)
2 stalks celery, chopped (optional)
2 tsp minced garlic
2- 26 oz cans spaghetti sauce (my favorite is one that is "roasted garlic and onion" or something like that)
2 tsp. basil
1 tsp oregano
1/4-1/2 tsp salt (to taste)
1.5 T sugar
1/2 tsp. pepper
Directions: Brown meat with onions, celery and carrots (I put the carrots and celery in the food processor because I really don't like the texture of cooked carrots, but I like the taste). Cook until meat is done, vegetables are tender and all "juice" is cooked out of pan.
Serve over pasta. Angel hair is my favorite because it cooks so quickly (and it's so good). :)
You can also mix the sauce and pasta together before you serve, but around here, it seems everyone likes a different pasta-to-sauce ratio, so we do it separately.
Garnish with cheese.
Great served with warm French Bread with Garlic Butter
This spaghetti never fails to hit the spot. Our son Calvin eats so much of it I wonder where it is fitting inside his 6 year old body. I like to eat mine with some cucumbers and onions in vinegar on the side.
