Scones

As you can see, I am not talking about those biscuit things, I am talking about fried bread.   I didn't know there were two different kinds of 'scones' for a while, I thought this was the only one and it should be.  I love scones by themselves with honey butter but I also love them for a few other things.  I wanted to get this recipe on here so I could link to it when talking about the other things. :)  They really are pretty easy to make and so worth the effort.

Scones
Adapted from the roll recipe
2 T milk in measuring cup and fill to 1 cup line with warm water
3 T butter, melted
3.5 T sugar
1 tsp salt
1  1/4  tsp active dry yeast
2.5 cups flour
oil for frying

Bread maker:  Add wet ingredients to pan.  Add flour and salt, make a well in the center and add yeast and sugar.  Turn onto dough cycle.

Mixer:  Add wet ingredients to bowl cover with yeast and sugar, stir and let sit about 5 minutes until foamy.  Add 1 cup of flour and mix with paddle for 30 seconds on low and 2 minutes on medium.  Switch to dough hook and knead in remaining flour.  This dough will be wetter than the roll dough.  Dump into greased bowl, cover and let rest for about 1 hour.

When bread maker is finished or dough has risen for an hour, dump onto lightly floured surface, turn to coat with flour, cover and let rest for 15-30 minutes.  Preheat oil in fryer or pan with thermometer to 375 degrees.  Roll dough into rectangle so dough is about 1/2 inch thick and cut into desired size.  About 12 med size pieces.

Fry 1-2 at a time in oil on each side until golden brown.  Serve warm with honey or honey butter.
Have a great weekend!
